Long Night Thursday

Well it was a long night Thursday – the result didn’t come until 6am, so I got home at 6.40 with a work start at 9am so I decided to just stay up.

The result shows how difficult it is for an Independent Candidate.
Firstly, the large number of non main party candidates meant the votes for us were diluted, and secondly becasue the prediction was so close, a lot of people decided to vote for a main party as they felt ‘it made more difference’.

I’ve said before about why I think that logic is wrong, but it’s a habit of the electorate which is hard to break.

I believe my idea the same as I believed it on Thursday, and would thank everyone for the support, be that a message, a donation or a vote.

It would definitely be a concern that for every person voting for me, 10 people voted for BNP.
That confirms the power of publicity, again the problem of the Independent!

I’ve Voted – Have You?

Been to cast my vote – must admit it’s strange to put the cross next to my own name!

A last appeal to non voters – an MP will still be elected if you don’t vote, and a non vote has an effect on the result, so go vote! If you are disenchanted with the lot, then plump for an Independent MP (that would be me then)

Polling Day!

Election is today!
If you have decided to vote for me, then make sure you do actually go to the polling station and vote!
Thinking that ‘it’s not worth the effort’ means that an MP will still be elected, but your part in the process will be as a non voter, so go and vote!

Do not forget the opportunity I offer, for an Independent MP who will be able to leave party politics behind, to be able to have the constituency tell him how to vote – it’s a different way to do things, and not an option available to everyone in the country – just Gillingham and Rainham!

If your decison is not to vote as ‘they are all the same’, then vote for me and you will see that there is a different way to do things.

Imagine if I am elected an Independent MP – lots of voters around the country would look on with envy, wishing they had been given the same chance.
Well, Gillingham and Rainham *has* that chance!
It has it right now, May 2010, the chance is there to elect an Independent MP, so take the opportunity to do politics in a different way:

With the main parties using the last day before the election to go back to their core message, I do the same in this video.

I explain why I am standing, that only an Independent MP can properly represent the constituency.
If you support me, remember to actually go to the polling station and put the cross next to my name at the top.

Confused First Time Voter?

A lot of first time voters are simply confused by the election – confused about how to actually vote, confused about the choice. Often they end up so confused they choose to ignore the whole thing…

If this is you, do not worry or apologise about it!
Many first time voters were 3-7 years old when the government last changed, so have no experience of it.
Also, despite maybe saying otherwise, the main parties like it if you don’t vote, because it keeps the result within that circle…

If you need me to explain the actual voting process, the possible outcomes, the choices, etc, ask me!
Ask me as one of the candidates to be your MP. Do not ignore the whole process, because although you may think it doesn’t affect you, it does!

Peter Mandelson and Gordon Brown both making my point for me

One of labour’s angles over yesterday and today is to say there is an anti conservative majority, i.e. more people people will vote against conseratives than for them.

Hmm… this *exactly* is my point with the current Labour MP in Gillingham and Rainham…

In 2005, 41% voted Labour here, meaning 59% voted elsewhere – the kind of anti majority both Peter Mandelson and Gordon Brown refer to. The Labour MP Paul Clark has voted with labour in parliament over 99% of the time!
That is in no way a proper refelction of the constituency view!

Any other party MP would be the same, a point that Paul Clark made to me at the public meeting. That’s why only an Independent MP if able to actually be a representative of the constituency, because party politics do not apply with me.

That’s why only an Independent MP can truly be free to represent the constituency view rather than the party leadership view.

Are You A ‘Don’t Know’ Voter?

Gillingham and Rainham voters, are you a ‘dont know voter’?
Polls suggest well over 30% have still to decide who to vote for.

A lot of those ‘dont know’ voters in fact mean ‘don’t care and won’t vote’. Out and about this morning I met a regular amount, who say to me they don’t believe a word any of them say.

I try and ask them if they think I am one of ‘them’ or not, but they tell me they won’t even talk about it and won’t be voting.

The thing is, if you don’t vote, an MP will still be elected, and you will have missed your chance to elect an Independent MP, something different from the party politics.

25,000 didnt vote in Gillingham last time, and the winner got 18,000, so the non voters have a huge possible impact, if only they used their vote.

I have said to some of them, that in their logic, voting for me would not make any difference to them if they are non voters, so please vote for me, just put a cross next to my name which is first on the ballot, and then go back to being a ‘not interested’ and you may just find you have taken part in something radical!

Paul Clark, Party Politics, and Proving My Point

At a public hustings event last week, I was able to put my case across, that as an Independent MP I would be able to better reflect the constituency view, which Paul Clark’s voting record of 99% with Labour shows he can’t, and hasn’t.

He didn’t like it, unsurprisingly, because his voting record is a matter of public record, but his response was that a conservative or lib dem MP would be the same…

Well, firstly, that’s typical party politics, pointing the finger at another party.
Secondly it sort of proves my point – Paul and I agree, that a conservative or lib dem MP would indeed vote as their party told them, not how the constituency told them.

I offer something different – leaving the party politics behind, and casting my MP votes on legislation how the constituency tells me.

Vote for an Independent MP on May 6th, and tell as may others as you can!
Get in touch with me if you want via the contact page, and thanks for your support.

Gillingham and Rainham voters – now is the time to tell everyone you know that I offer an Independent MP…

If you are in the constituency, or know someone who is, as we head into the last few days of the campaign, now is the time to tell as many people as you can that I am standing.

This is an election where maybe 30% of voters are still undecided of how they will vote – too many of them will not even know I am standing, and too many of them will not vote.
I can only do so much as one person, I need people to spread the word, so if you like what I offer, it would help a load if you tell as many as you can think of – thanks!
